26th March 2010: Cork Opera House Creates New Business Partnerships

With the Arts Council announcing a 20% cut in funding for arts organisations Cork Opera House has found new ways of bringing in essential revenue streams.

A more uplifting announcement came today of a three-year partnership that will see Opera House cast and crew put up in the tranquil leafy surrounds on the edge of the City as Fitzgerald’s Vienna Woods Hotel becomes the Opera House’s Official Accommodation Partner.

Jason Sleator, Sales & Marketing Manager, for Fitzgerald’s Vienna Woods Hotel said of the partnership, “This is an exciting opportunity for Vienna Woods to substantially increase our marketing activities for minimal cost. Effectively, we are swapping each others services on a contra basis. Besides the obvious benefits we are thrilled to be part of such a unique approach and look forward to working closely with Cork Opera House over the next three years.”

This kind of creative partnership reflects the times we are in. This resourceful endeavour will allow Cork Opera House reinvest the substantial cost of accommodating casts into its production spend producing more impressive sets and costing for longer hours of creative input.

Bryan Flynn, director of West Side Story currently playing at the Opera House said about his cast, “They work really hard, putting their heart and soul into every performance. It is essential that they have a homely, comfortable place to stay so they can recuperate and do it all again with the same gusto the next day”

Fitzgerald’s Vienna Woods Hotel will be able to double the value of its marketing activities in terms of spend based on this win – win style relationship. Cork Opera Houses executive director, Gerry Barnes, is thrilled with the partnership saying “we are delighted to have Fitzgerald’s Vienna Woods Hotel united with Cork Opera House in an affiliation that serves both in a financial and a cultural way. It is the support of companies such as Fitzgerald’s Vienna Woods that allows Cork Opera House to bring a high quality shows such as West Side Story to the people of Cork.”

West Side Story has extended its performance run until Saturday 3rd April.

The production will tour to the county’s theatres in early 2010 then come back to play the Half Moon Theatre and Opera House main stage and will form part of Shanghai 2010 Expo later in the year.

West Side Story is Broadway’s most memorable musicals and one of the greatest love stories of all time. Director Bryan Flynn and the creative team that brought us the musical drama, Michael Collins, now bring this a thrilling presentation to the Opera House stage opening Easter 2010. West Side Story will be the

big Spring musical of the season occupying the busy Easter slot following Michael Collins, Blood Brothers and Disney’s Beauty the Beast.

Proposals are invited from companies wishing to promote their brands via title sponsorship or performance sponsorship for either production.
